Report on Last Year’s Youth ConferenceYouth - 2009

by Jon Shatat, ECC Youth Program Manager

From the 15th to the 17th of May, 2009, Edgar Cayce Canada’s Second Annual Youth Conference was held in conjunction with the Canadian Fellowship Conference. As youth coordinator for Edgar Cayce Canada, it is a tremendous responsibility watching and guiding the youth that come. It’s certainly something that I pray about a lot and ask for guidance, as well. In a way it is rewarding to see the youth grow spiritually, but in another way there is a lot of responsibility involved. Alexandra Laureate-Gabriel volunteered to help out with the youth conference even though she is a die-hard Mark Thurston fan and in helping out with the Youth conference she missed Mark’s lectures.

Friday evening started with getting to know each other and doing some “laughing yoga.” We also did an aura viewing exercise recommended by Bob Johnstone. The youth became really excited when they were able to see each other’s auras. Alexandra noticed that the auras of children are more brighter then the auras of adults. Saturday started with a workshop by John Ryan on past life regression. John did an amazing session and it got really emotional for Alexandra who went to a different time and a different place and remembered a past life. Next was “The Spirit of Shakuhachi”, led by Debbie Danbrook.

Afterwards it was the “Psychic Butterfly” workshop, with Bob Johnstone. Then there was the one-on-one workshop with Mark Thurston, who was very kind to spend some with us! He led a workshop on dreams. He also sent Alexandra copies of the lectures that she missed!

Sunday morning, Kathie Caple, the Prayer Circle Manager, talked to us about chakras. Then it was time to go. These weekends always fly by, but there is so much growth and so many memories that they last a year.

I’d like to give a heartfelt thank-you to all the volunteer workshop presenters for their time and the awesome workshops they did. They were all very much enjoyed and well received.

The Youth conference has become an annual event; however, there are other activities we would also like to have. For instance, I will be the youth coordinator for the A.R.E. Summer Congress in Virginia Beach next year. It would be wonderful for some of the Canadian youth to come to Virginia Beach next year for the Congress, which is always a very special event, and meet up with some of the American Cayce youth.

The Third Annual Youth Conference

From May 14-16, 2010, Edgar Cayce Canada’s Youth Program will again provide an opportunity for young people from ages 11-18 to meet with like minds of similar ages. Our previous programs at the Canadian Fellowship Conference in Kingston were a great success, and we’ll be offering the Youth Conference again at CFC 2010! All activities will take place at St. Lawrence College, Kingston. (See the Conference page for more details and directions to the College.)

During the weekend programming will include dream work, an introduction to meditation, games, nature time, and much more!
The group will also spend time with ECC members and guest speakers (including the main conference speaker). Supervision will be by experienced adults and youth counsellors.

Time and Dates:

Registration will be between 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday May 14, 2010. The Conference will run through 12 noon on Sunday May 16th.
